About this walk

Starting from Summerbridge in Nidderdale, this linear route climbs steadily onto the high farmland fringing Brimham Moor, opening up the wide skies and long views that give the walk its name. The ascent of around 190 metres is spread across gentle field paths and quiet tracks, making it a manageable moderate outing of just over five miles.

The route passes High Gilmor Farm and skirts close to Brimham Lodge Farm, with the famous weathered outcrops of Brimham Rocks SSSI rising on the horizon. Look out for kestrels, buzzards and other birds of prey hunting over the pasture and rough moorland edge, a habitat they share with skylarks and curlews in season.

Beyond the rocks, the path brushes past High Wood and the open expanse of Brimham Moor before dropping back down towards Summerbridge. Keep an eye out for the small spring known as Adam's Ale, one of several quiet features tucked into this varied landscape of farmland, woodland edge and gritstone moor.
