About this walk
Starting from the colourful village of Eyeries on the Beara Peninsula, this 7.3 km circular walk heads out towards the old coastguard station on the rugged Atlantic coast of west Cork. The route climbs gently, gaining around 116 metres in total, as it links the small townlands of Causkeys, Eyeriesbegga and Traanimod along quiet country lanes and grassy tracks.
As you make your way around the loop, the views open out across Coulagh Bay, with the Slieve Miskish Mountains rising inland and the Atlantic stretching to the horizon. Field-stone walls, wildflower verges and grazing sheep set the tone, and there are frequent glimpses of the sea between rocky outcrops as the path traces the contours of the headland.
A short detour brings you to Pallas Strand, a sheltered pocket of sand and shingle that makes an ideal spot to pause before completing the loop back into Eyeries. Allow around an hour and three-quarters at a steady pace, with a little extra time to enjoy the village's painted houses and harbour views at the finish.
