About this walk

This linear walk on the southern fringe of Norwich links a string of woods and commons, finishing at Swardeston where Edith Cavell grew up. Setting off from Tuckswood, the path slips quickly into Danby Wood before opening out onto Eaton Common, an area of Open Access Land with grazing meadows close to the River Yare.

From Keswick the route threads through Breck Plantation and past All Saints, then continues via Foxburrow Plantation towards Swardeston Common, another swathe of Open Access Land favoured by locals. The walk closes at the village Roll of Honour, a quiet and fitting end point.

Along the way you are never far from peaceful Norfolk countryside, with Marston Marsh, Big Wood and Intwood Carr lying nearby. At 7.7 km with a modest 125 m of ascent, it makes a thoughtful half-day outing that combines gentle woodland walking with a sense of pilgrimage.
