About this walk

This short linear walk out of Marsden climbs gently onto the fringes of Marsden Moor, following historic waterways up into the Colne Valley. Starting near The Railway pub, the route heads up Clough Lee before joining the towpath of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, with the River Colne running close by.

You soon reach Tunnel End Reservoir, a scenic pause point where the canal meets the moorland edge. From here the path continues up to Easter Gate, an old packhorse crossing that once carried trade across the Pennines. The views open out over the surrounding cloughs and rolling moor.

At just 2.4 km with a modest 84 m of ascent, it packs a lot of character into 45 minutes. Back in Marsden you can round things off with a visit to St Bartholomew's Church, United Church Marsden, or a well-earned pint at The Riverhead Brewery Tap, all a short stroll from the station.
