About this walk
Starting from the village of Dunham Town on the edge of Greater Manchester, this gentle loop dips into the historic parkland of Dunham Massey. The route follows well-kept paths through open pasture and mature woodland, with the ornamental Smithy Pool offering a quiet spot to pause and watch the waterfowl.
Along the way you pass Langham Grove Obelisk standing tall among the trees, and can pick out the former course of the River Bollin where the river once wound through the estate. The current channel of the Bollin runs nearby, close to the leafy area known as New Covert, and the Bridgewater Canal lies within easy reach just beyond the park boundary.
The walk finishes at the Stamford Cafe, a welcome stop for tea and cake before heading back. At just under three kilometres with only a modest rise, it is an easy outing suitable for most walkers and a good introduction to the wider Dunham Massey estate.
