About this walk

Starting and finishing at Kinfauns Home Farm just east of Perth, the Deuchny Trail is a compact but rewarding 5.5 km circular that climbs steadily into the mixed woodland cloaking the hills above the Tay. The route heads uphill on farm tracks and forest paths, passing the landmark Pine Cone marker before continuing on to the wooded summit of Deuchny Hill.

With around 290 m of ascent packed into a short distance, expect a decent workout on the way up and easier going on the descent. The forest offers welcome shade in summer and glimpses out across Perth and Kinross when the trees thin. Allow around an hour and three quarters to complete the loop at a steady pace.

The wider area is worth lingering in: Binn Hill and The Binn rise nearby, while the small settlement of Millhouse and the tumbling Deuchny Burn add character to the surrounding countryside. It is a good half-day option for anyone based in Perth looking for woodland and a hill top without a long journey.
