About this walk

The Derwent Dam Green Route is a challenging 6.4 km linear walk through the heart of Derbyshire's Upper Derwent Valley, climbing a demanding 452 metres as it links Rowlee Farm with Hope Woodlands. From the start the path rises steadily to Pasture Top, offering broadening views over the reservoirs and the surrounding moorland edges.

The route drops to Fairholmes, the well-known gateway to the valley, before pushing on across Open Hagg towards the finish at Hope Woodlands. Along the way you pass close to the Monument to the Dambusters and the memorial to Tip the Faithful Sheepdog, with Calfhey Wood, Hagg Side and the steep scar of Ashton Clough shaping the landscape around you.

Expect a mix of farm tracks, forest paths and open hillside, with sustained climbs that reward walkers with sweeping views across the Peak District. Allow around 2 hours 15 minutes at a steady pace, and be prepared for changeable upland weather at any time of year.
