About this walk
Starting near the Stable Block at Killerton, this compact but rewarding route climbs into the wooded slopes above the estate. The path leads past Killerton Chapel before opening out into the Deer Park and Back Park, where views stretch across the rolling Devon countryside towards the meandering River Culm.
From here the walk turns uphill through Park Wood, where mature trees, including the estate's notable conifers, shade the ascent. The gradient is steady rather than steep, but with nearly 200 metres of climb in under three kilometres, it earns its moderate rating.
The reward comes at the top: Dolbury Hillfort, an Iron Age earthwork crowning the ridge, and The Clump, a distinctive stand of trees that marks the summit. On a clear day the panorama takes in a broad sweep of east Devon. Nearby, walkers can extend their visit to Killerton House, the Bear's Hut, the Acland Memorial Cross or Columbjohn Wood.
