Degibna and Higher Pentire walk, Penrose

This gentle circular walk sets out from Helston and heads down towards the shores of The Loe, the largest natural freshwater lake in Cornwall. The path follows the wooded eastern flank of the lake through the Penrose estate, with glimpses of open water between the trees and quiet corners rich in birdlife.

From the lakeside you climb gradually onto Higher Pentire, passing the small Degibna Prayer Chapel, a modest and atmospheric building tucked into the rural landscape above The Loe. The route then loops back through fields and estate tracks, offering wide views across the valley before descending once more towards Helston.

At just under 4 km with a modest 148 m of ascent, the walk takes around an hour at a steady pace and packs a surprising amount of variety into a short outing. It is a good choice for a half-day visit combined with time in Helston itself.
