About this walk

This short circular walk from the village of Danbury links two of the area's best-loved patches of open common land. Setting out from Danbury, you head onto Danbury Common, a broad expanse of heath and woodland cared for by the National Trust, where sandy paths weave between gorse, oak and birch.

The route passes The Cricketers Arms, a welcome halfway marker before you continue across to the neighbouring Lingwood Common. Along the way you are within easy reach of several local landmarks, including the Iron Age earthworks of Danbury Camp, the historic Rectory, and Frettons. The village also has associations with the English composer Cecil Armstrong Gibbs, while the Backwarden nature reserve lies just to the south for anyone keen to extend the outing.

At a gentle 2.6 km with only modest ascent, this is an easy loop suitable for most walkers, rounding off with a return through Danbury itself. Expect a mix of woodland shade, open heath and quiet village lanes underfoot.
