About this walk

This short but stiff circular walk climbs high above the Exmoor coast from the tiny village of Countisbury, offering big sea views for relatively little distance. It begins near the church of St John the Evangelist, a landmark for sailors and walkers alike, before heading out onto the open heath of Wind Hill.

The route traces the ramparts of Wind Hill, a broad promontory ridge with sweeping outlooks over the Bristol Channel and the wooded valley of the East Lyn far below. From here you cross rough moorland grazing towards the Dew Pond, a quiet spot often busy with Exmoor ponies and skylarks in summer.

Returning via the fields near Arnold's Linhay, you gain glimpses inland towards Butter Hill and the deep combes that drop away to Watersmeet and Ladycombe Lake. It is a compact loop with a serious 340 m of ascent packed in, so take your time on the climbs and enjoy the coastal air.
