About this walk

The Cornish Hill Trail is a moderate 5.4 km circular walk in the quiet uplands of South Ayrshire, climbing steadily through forest and open moor to the modest summit of Cornish Hill. With around 217 metres of ascent packed into roughly an hour and a half, it offers a satisfying leg-stretch without demanding a full hill day.

From the start, the path works its way uphill to a Rosnes Bench, one of the sculpted resting spots placed across the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire hills to frame the view. From here the trail continues to the top of Cornish Hill, where the outlook opens across rolling forestry and rough pasture. The descent drops down towards the Water of Girvan, whose upper reaches thread through this remote corner of the county before the loop returns to the start.

Nearby Cornish Loch sits tucked among the surrounding moorland and makes a natural extension for anyone keen to linger. The route is well suited to walkers looking for a short but genuinely wild half-day out in a lesser-visited part of southwest Scotland.
