About this walk

This gentle linear walk leaves the village of Corfe Castle and climbs steadily onto the open heath and grassland of Corfe Common, before descending to finish in the quiet hamlet of Kingston. From the start, there are glimpses of the dramatic ruins of Corfe Castle rising on its natural mound, with the Castle View Welcome Centre and the Swanage Railway Museum close at hand for anyone arriving by heritage train.

Leaving the village, the route passes near The Gwyle, a small wooded valley, and The Castle Inn before heading out towards Glebe Farm and onto the common itself. The wide, open slopes offer some of the finest views in the Isle of Purbeck, looking back to the castle and out across rolling Dorset countryside.

The final stretch is a steady climb of around 80 metres onto the ridge at Kingston, a small stone-built village perched above the Purbeck landscape. It makes a natural end point, with sweeping views back over Corfe and the surrounding hills.
