About this walk
Starting and finishing in Arborfield, this 4.2 km loop is an easy hour's walking through the quiet countryside on the southern edge of Wokingham. The route sets off across gentle farmland before dropping down to Barkham Brook, a small watercourse that threads through hedgerows and damp meadows.
The path then rises towards The Bull at Barkham, a traditional village pub that makes a natural halfway pause. From here you climb steadily onto Barkham Hill and continue over Gravelpit Hill, the two modest rises that account for most of the walk's 89 m of ascent. The views open out over patchwork fields and woodland typical of this corner of Berkshire.
The return leg drops back towards Arborfield along quiet lanes and footpaths. Nearby Bearwood Lake sits just to the north, worth a look if you have time to extend the outing. With only easy gradients and a short overall distance, it is a good choice for a relaxed half-day out.
