About this walk
Starting and finishing in Taplow, this 4.6 km circuit follows the waymarked Cliveden Gold Trail through one of Buckinghamshire's most celebrated wooded estates above the River Thames. With around 189 metres of ascent packed into just under 3 miles, expect a steady, moderately hilly outing that rewards the effort with sweeping views.
From the village the route climbs to the Cliveden Southern Viewpoint, where the ground falls away towards the Thames far below. The path then drops through beech woodland to cross White Brook before rising again to reach the imposing Duke of Sutherland Statue, a landmark high on the estate. Along the way you can look out for the Weeping Cedar planted by Sir Winston Churchill and glimpses of the formal Parterre.
Beyond the trail itself, the surrounding area offers plenty to linger over, from the Thames towpath and Ray Mill Stream to the churning waters of Boulter's Lock Weir. Allow around an hour and a quarter for the loop, plus extra time to take in the wider grounds.
