About this walk
The Cliveden Blue Walking Trail is a short but rewarding circular route through the wooded slopes and formal grounds of Cliveden, high above the River Thames in Buckinghamshire. Starting and finishing at Taplow, the 3.4 km loop climbs a total of 163 metres, so expect a steady effort in return for wide views over the river valley below.
The path leads you out to the Cliveden Southern Viewpoint, where the Thames snakes through wooded banks far beneath the escarpment. Along the way you pass a Weeping Cedar planted by Sir Winston Churchill and the striking Duke of Sutherland Statue, both quiet reminders of the estate's long history. Down in the valley, keep an eye out for Ray Mill Stream and Boulter's Lock Weir, familiar landmarks of this stretch of the Thames.
At around an hour of walking, it makes an ideal half-day outing when paired with time exploring the wider Cliveden grounds. The terrain is mixed woodland and estate paths, with some steeper sections on the climb back up from the river.
