About this walk
This gentle linear route links Pelsall to Street's Corner via a string of canal towpaths, commons and Black Country landmarks. Setting off from Pelsall, the walk quickly picks up the Cannock Extension Canal before reaching The Fingerpost, where it joins the Wyrley & Essington Canal for a level, waterside stretch.
Passing The Swan, the route heads into Brownhills and its Civic Square, home to a striking miner statue that marks the town's coalfield heritage. From here you follow the Daw End Branch of the Wyrley & Essington Canal towards Clayhanger, before stepping onto Clayhanger Common at the local landmark known as "The Spot".
The final stretch crosses the open ground of the common, with glimpses of Moat Farm Pool, an old pit mound and the neighbouring Pelsall North Common Local Nature Reserve nearby. The walk finishes at Street's Corner, having taken in a quietly characterful slice of the West Midlands where industrial past and reclaimed nature sit side by side.
