About this walk

From Sizergh on the southern edge of the Lake District National Park, this 3.6 km route heads up onto Church Fell, a low limestone ridge rising above the Kent valley. The ascent is modest at around 105 metres, spread comfortably over the outward leg, making it a manageable hour's walk for most.

The path passes through Helsington, a scattered settlement on the fell's eastern flank. As you gain height the views open out quickly, with the Lyth Valley stretching west towards the Whitbarrow escarpment and the broader fells of southern Lakeland rising beyond. Underfoot the ground is typical of this corner of Cumbria, with grassy commons grazed close and outcrops of pale limestone breaking through.

As a linear route, you can either return the way you came for a longer outing or arrange onward transport from the far end. Either way it makes a fine short leg-stretcher that rewards little effort with a generous slice of Cumbrian scenery.
