About this walk

This gentle circular walk of just over three kilometres loops out from the village of Chirk into the wooded parkland surrounding Chirk Castle. Setting off from the village, the route climbs steadily through Pleasure Ground Wood, where mature trees shelter the path as it winds uphill towards the castle grounds.

The centrepiece is Chirk Castle itself, a medieval fortress that has stood above the Ceiriog valley for more than seven centuries. From here the path passes the statue known as Hercules before dropping down through Baddy's Wood, offering glimpses across the surrounding Wrexham countryside. The descent is easy underfoot and returns you gradually to the village.

With around 113 metres of ascent spread over the loop, it makes a comfortable hour's outing suitable for most walkers. A nearby fish farm sits within the wider estate, and there are plenty of quiet spots to pause among the trees before completing the circuit back at Chirk.
