About this walk

This short circular walk on Anglesey's north coast follows the striking shingle ridge that separates Cemlyn Lagoon from the open sea. Starting and finishing in the parish of Cylch-y-Garn, the route quickly reaches the sweeping curve of Cemlyn Bay, where a natural bank of storm-piled pebbles arcs across the shoreline.

From the ridge you look inland over the brackish waters of Cemlyn Lagoon, a sheltered stretch of water that draws large numbers of seabirds in summer. On the seaward side, waves break directly against the shingle, and on a clear day the views stretch along Anglesey's rugged northern coastline. The path underfoot is loose in places, so progress is unhurried and easy to enjoy.

The return leg loops back through the low ground behind the bay, completing a gentle 2.7 km circuit with barely any ascent. At around 45 minutes it is a walk that suits a slow pace, plenty of pauses for birdwatching, and a good look at one of the island's most distinctive natural features.
