About this walk

The Carleton Trail (Black) is a compact 4 km linear route in the countryside around Clogher, County Tyrone. Setting off near the old Clogher Work House, the path heads out through the small townlands of Ballymagowan and Aghindrumman, with roughly 119 m of ascent spread easily over the hour-long walk.

The going is straightforward and the gradients gentle, making this a good introduction to the drumlin country of south Tyrone. As you climb, views open out across the surrounding fields and hedgerows towards the low hills that ring the Clogher Valley. The trail finishes on Dumb Hill, a fitting high point to pause before retracing your steps or arranging a pick-up.

The wider area rewards a longer visit, with Bishop's Well, the Blackwater river, and the townlands of Tullybroom and Killaney Lower all within easy reach. The village of Clogher itself sits at the heart of the valley and makes a natural base for exploring the trail and its surroundings.
