‘Capability’ Brown walk at Dinefwr

This short circular walk explores the landscaped parkland at Dinefwr, an estate on the edge of Llandeilo in Carmarthenshire. Starting near the Takeaway Hut, the route eases you into the park with gentle gradients and wide, open views across the Tywi valley.

The path leads you past the Roman Fort Complex, where the outlines of the ancient site sit quietly within the surrounding grassland. From here you continue through Dinefwr Park itself, a designed landscape shaped in the eighteenth century, with mature trees, grazing land and glimpses of the wider countryside. Dinefwr Castle stands nearby on its wooded ridge and makes an obvious extension if you have time.

At just 2.5 km with under 100 metres of ascent, the loop suits a relaxed 45 minutes on foot and works well as an introduction to the estate before exploring further afield. Expect grassy tracks and estate paths underfoot, with plenty of pauses for the views back across the parkland.
