About this walk
This linear walk of nearly 10 kilometres traces a broadly triangular course across the north and west of Bristol, linking pockets of green space, hidden waterways and glimpses of the city's Roman past. Starting near the Blaise Inn, the route heads past Henbury War Memorial before climbing gently over Coombe Hill and dropping down to a peaceful Lilly Pond, where a little free library makes a charming pause point.
From here the path follows the Trym Valley, a wooded corridor that guides walkers down towards Trym Park in Sea Mills. Look out for the remains of a Roman Building close to the confluence with the Avon, a reminder of the port that once stood here. The route then climbs past St. Mary Magdalene church and threads through Folly Goss and The Ash Wood.
The final stretch offers fine views across the Avon Gorge before descending to finish at Hotwells, on the edge of the harbour. Along the way you may spot whitebeam trees, the Quarry 5 viewpoint, and memorials linked to Scipio Africanus and Amelia Ann Blanford Edwards.
