About this walk

This circular walk from Brancaster Staithe threads together the best of north Norfolk's coast and its quiet hinterland, mixing salt marsh air with rolling common land. Starting near the harbour, the route passes The Jolly Sailors and The White Horse, two well-known village inns that make natural pause points before or after the loop.

Heading inland, the path climbs gently towards Barrow Common, a heathy ridge that offers wide views back over the marshes towards the sea. From here you drop down past the site of Branodunum Roman Fort, once a Saxon Shore fort guarding this stretch of coast, before returning through the village past St Mary's Church and The Crab Hut, a reminder of the staithe's enduring fishing traditions.

At 7.9 km with only modest ascent, it is a manageable half-day outing, though the mix of tracks, lanes and common ground earns its moderate grade. Nearby Billetts Barn and Valley Farm sit just off the route for those wanting to extend the walk.
