About this walk
This compact circular from the village of Bradenham climbs steadily into the beech woods that cloak the surrounding Chiltern slopes. At just 4 km with around 200 m of ascent, it packs a proper hillside effort into little over an hour, with the reward of dappled light beneath tall trees for much of the way.
The route heads up through Park Wood, one of the classic Chiltern beech hangers, where the ground rises quickly and the canopy closes overhead. After looping through the woodland the path drops back down to the midway point at Bradenham itself, a small village set around a wide green beneath the escarpment, before completing the circuit.
Back at the start, the nearby Pony Espresso is a welcome stop for coffee and cake after the climb. The walk works well as a short half-day outing, with the steepest ground tackled early and gentler ground returning to the village.
