About this walk
This circular route on Box Hill packs a lot of Surrey's finest chalk downland scenery into a compact three miles. Setting out from Donkey Green, the path climbs to the well-known viewpoint at the summit of Box Hill before dropping into the quiet folds of Happy Valley.
From there you follow the ridgeline over Lodge Hill and up to Juniper Top, where open grassland gives long views across the Mole Valley. The route then swings round via Flint Hill, with the option to pause at Smith & Western or Salomons on the way back. Along the way you'll pass close to the Ramblers' 1939-45 Memorial Bridge, and can look across to Burford Spur and the chalk slopes known as The Whites.
With 225 metres of ascent packed into a short distance, the walk earns its moderate grading, but the steeper pulls are rewarded with sweeping panoramas over the North Downs and the Weald beyond.
