About this walk

Starting and finishing in the village of Downley on the edge of the Chilterns, this circular route traces the wooded boundary of the Hughenden estate. From the green, paths lead through beech woodland and open pasture towards the Disraeli Monument, a tall column raised in memory of the former Prime Minister who made his home nearby.

The walk continues past Benjamin Disraeli's grave in the quiet churchyard, before dropping down through the estate grounds. The Stableyard Café offers a welcome pause roughly halfway, with tea and cake before the return leg. From here the route climbs gently past the Dew Pond, a peaceful spot tucked among the trees, and back out towards Downley.

Along the way you'll catch views towards Hughenden Park and glimpses of the TV Repeater on the ridge, with Millfield Wood and St. James the Great church nearby for those wishing to extend the day. The Brickmakers Arms in Downley makes a fitting finish.
