Bookham Common Activity Trail, North Downs West

This gentle circular trail on the western edge of the North Downs sets off from Little Bookham and loops through the quiet mosaic of woodland, glades and grassland that makes up Bookham Common. The paths are broad and largely level, with just enough gradient to add a little variety over the 3.5 kilometres.

From the start you head out across Great Bookham Common, passing the curious clearing known as the Isle of Wight before the route curves back through mixed oak woodland towards Little Bookham Common and The Birches. Along the way there are open rides, seasonal ponds and plenty of birdsong, with waymarkers keeping the navigation straightforward.

The return leg brings you close to Banks Farm and The Railway Stop before finishing back in Little Bookham. It is a good introduction to the commons for families and first-time visitors, and easily combined with a longer wander into the surrounding Surrey countryside if you have time to spare.
