Booby's Bay walk, North Cornwall

This easy linear walk along the North Cornwall coast links a string of sandy bays and rocky headlands on the South West Coast Path. Setting off from Treyarnon, the route heads north past Constantine Island, a tidal islet reached across the sands at low water, and around the wide arc of Constantine Bay with its dunes and Atlantic surf.

Continuing along the cliffs, you pass Booby's Bay, known for its rock pools and occasional glimpses of the timbers of old wrecks in the sand. The path drops back to Treyarnon before rising over the low headlands at Trethias and Carnevas, with the offshore island of Trethias out to sea. There are open views across gorse and thrift-covered clifftops for most of the way.

The walk finishes above Porthcothan Beach, a sheltered inlet cared for by the National Trust, with the Tredrea Inn nearby for a well-earned drink. As a linear route of 5.6 km with modest ascent, it takes around an hour and a half; return by bus along the coast road, or retrace your steps for a longer day out.
