Bluebell trail at Buckland Abbey

This 3.9 km linear route sets off from the grounds of Buckland Abbey, a historic estate tucked into the wooded valleys on the western edge of Dartmoor. The path passes The Great Barn, one of the abbey's most striking surviving buildings, before dropping down through woodland that comes alive with bluebells in late spring.

From the barn the trail heads towards the River Tavy, following the contours of the valley through mixed broadleaf woodland. With around 216 m of ascent packed into a relatively short distance, expect some steady climbs and steep sections as the path works its way between the river and the higher ground above.

The walk finishes in the small Devon village of Crapstone, a quiet settlement a short distance from Yelverton. Allow around 1 hour 15 minutes at a moderate pace, and plan your onward transport from the village end before setting off, as this is a one-way route rather than a loop.
