About this walk
The Blue Route offers a gentle circuit around the Longshaw Estate on the eastern edge of the Peak District, taking in open moorland fringes, quiet woodland and wide views across the Derbyshire hills. At just under 5 km with modest ascent, it makes an easy half-day outing suitable for most walkers.
The route passes the National Park Commemoration marker, a nod to Longshaw's place in the story of Britain's protected landscapes, before leading on to Companion Stone 2, one of a series of contemporary carved stones set across the moors. Further along, the path reaches the Ice House, a reminder of the estate's country-house past when winter ice was stored for use through the year.
Nearby you'll find Granby Wood and the striking gritstone outcrops of Tegness Pinnacle and Pinnacle Quarry, while The Grouse Inn sits within easy reach for a post-walk drink. The circular design brings you neatly back to the start, making it a straightforward introduction to this much-loved corner of Derbyshire.
