About this walk
The Blakemere Trail is a gentle linear route through the heart of Delamere Forest, Cheshire's largest area of woodland. Starting among the pines and birches, the path leads past Doolittle Moss, one of several peat bogs that give this corner of Cheshire its distinctive character, before opening out at Blakemere Moss itself, a restored shallow lake that draws waterfowl and reflects the surrounding trees on still mornings.
From the moss, the trail continues through mixed forest tracks where red squirrels and their grey cousins are often spotted, along with woodpeckers, jays and roe deer at quieter times of day. The walking is easy underfoot with only modest rises, making it a good choice for families and anyone looking for a relaxed afternoon under the canopy.
Nearby you'll find Black Lake and Dead Lake, two smaller mossland pools worth a short detour, while the village of Delamere and the Delamere Forest Cafe provide a welcome finish for tea and cake before heading home.
