About this walk

This gentle linear walk threads through the heart of Norwich, linking a string of historic riverside landmarks along the River Wensum. Starting in the city, the route passes Norfolk Wildlife Services before reaching Pulls Ferry, a much-photographed flint watergate, and the curious Swan Pit nearby.

From here you cross Jarrold Bridge, a modern footbridge over the Wensum, before turning towards the remains of the Carmelite Priory Church and the Lady Chapel. The path then leads on to Saint Helen's and finishes near The Red Lion, a welcome spot to pause at the end. Along the way, look out for the city's statues of Nelson and Wellington, the memorial to Edith Cavell, and the churches of Saint Paul and Saint Mary in the Marsh.

At just 3 km with minimal ascent, it makes an easy introduction to Norwich's medieval and ecclesiastical heritage, and pairs naturally with arrivals on the Bittern Line into Norwich station.
