About this walk

This gentle circular walk sets out from Llanwern on the eastern edge of Newport, tracing a quiet loop through farmland, small woods and two historic village churches. At just over 5 kilometres with modest ascent, it makes an easy half-morning outing suitable for most walkers.

From Llanwern the route heads out towards Craig-y-perthi Wood, a pocket of woodland that offers dappled shade and a welcome contrast to the surrounding fields. The path continues to the village of Bishton and St Cadwaladr's Church, a rare dedication in Wales and a peaceful spot to pause. Turning back towards Llanwern, you pass The Church of St. Mary before closing the loop where you began.

Along the way there are glimpses towards Waltwood Hill and the gently rolling countryside that separates Newport from the Caldicot Levels. It is an unassuming landscape, but one that rewards a slower pace, with hedgerows, quiet lanes and two ancient parish churches lending the route real character.
