About this walk

This gentle linear route traces the north east edge of Bicester, linking a chain of green spaces with echoes of the town's aviation heritage. Beginning at Spitfire Park, the path leads through Manston Park before passing the striking Motor Transport Sheds (Buildings 129, 130 and 131), part of the historic RAF Bicester airfield complex.

From here the walk continues to Southwold Park, a pleasant open space on the town's north eastern fringe, before finishing in Bicester itself. Along the way you are within easy reach of further former RAF buildings, including the Type A Hangars (Nos 79 and 137) and the Type C Hangars (Buildings 108 and 113), as well as Spider Park. Walkers looking to round off the day can head for The White Horse for refreshment.

With just 22 metres of ascent over 4.8 kilometres, the going is easy and suits most abilities. Allow around an hour at a steady pace, or longer if you plan to pause and take in the wartime architecture that gives this corner of Oxfordshire its distinctive character.
