About this walk
This gentle circular walk begins and ends in the village of Lode, on the edge of the Anglesey Abbey estate in Cambridgeshire. Setting out on flat, easy paths, you soon pass the memorial to William Ison before continuing along the tranquil waterside edge of the Horse Pond, a peaceful spot much loved by resident wildlife.
The route then leads you past the Herbaceous Garden, a highlight of the wider Anglesey Abbey grounds, before reaching Lode water mill, a restored working mill that still turns above the lode itself. From here the path loops back through open countryside and quiet lanes to return to Lode village.
Nearby you can extend your visit to take in the Winter Garden, the Lime Tree Lookout Treehouse, Lode Chapel, the village War Memorial and St James' church. With only a modest 29 m of ascent spread over 5.9 km, this is an easy outing suitable for most walkers and a good introduction to the flat, garden-rich landscape of this corner of Cambridgeshire.
