About this walk

This gentle linear walk of just over two miles winds through the parkland surrounding Berrington Hall in north Herefordshire. Setting out from the parish of Eye, Moreton and Ashton, the route eases into open pasture and mature estate trees, the kind of softly landscaped countryside that typifies this quiet corner of the county.

The path leads down to Berrington Pool, a sizeable ornamental lake that sits at the heart of the park and draws waterfowl throughout the year. You skirt the water to reach The Island, a small wooded feature within the pool, before continuing on to the Triumphal Arch, one of the estate's most striking pieces of parkland architecture. From here the route returns you to Eye, Moreton and Ashton to finish.

With only 116 metres of ascent spread over the distance, it is a comfortable hour's walking suitable for most abilities. George's Plantation and the hamlet of Ashton lie close by if you fancy extending the day, and the surrounding lanes offer easy onward wandering into the wider Herefordshire countryside.
