About this walk
This 6.2 km circular walk begins in the small market town of Bentham in North Yorkshire and heads out into the rolling pasture and lanes that surround it. With around 110 metres of ascent spread across the loop, the going is steady rather than strenuous, and the route can comfortably be completed in around an hour and a half.
From Bentham the trail climbs gently towards the hamlet of Fowgill, offering open views across the fields towards the western fringes of the Yorkshire Dales. After looping back through quiet farmland tracks and country lanes, you return to Bentham itself, where the heritage character of the town comes into focus around landmarks such as the Methodist Chapel.
Back in town there is plenty of choice for a well-earned break. The Black Bull and the Coach House Inn both offer traditional pub stops, while Hoggs 'n' Heifers provides another welcome refuelling option before heading home.
