About this walk
This linear route through Belmore Forest in County Fermanagh climbs steadily from the Carrickanean trailhead, weaving through mixed woodland and open forest tracks with around 289 metres of ascent spread across its 6.3 kilometres. It is a moderate outing, comfortably done in under two hours if you keep a steady pace.
From the start at Carrickanean the path leads on towards Dooletter before descending to the walk's centrepiece, Pollnagollum Cave, where a small waterfall drops into a limestone chasm cloaked in ferns and moss. The cave is the turnaround point on this out-and-back route, so allow a little extra time to pause at the viewing spot before retracing your steps.
The wider area around Coolarkan and Treel is classic Fermanagh upland country, with quiet lanes, drumlin views and karst landscapes shaped by the region's underlying limestone. It makes a rewarding half-day walk for anyone exploring the county without a car.
