About this walk
The Beamers Trail forms one of the four strands of the Witton Weavers Way, a network of paths threading through the old textile country south and west of Blackburn. This linear 7.6 km section is a moderate half-day outing, with around 249 m of ascent spread across rolling Lancashire farmland, wooded cloughs and quiet river valleys.
The route drops down to Hoghton Bottoms, a tucked-away hamlet beside the River Darwen where the water cuts through a steep wooded gorge. From here the path climbs back onto higher ground, passing an Alfred Wainwright memorial that nods to the famous fellwalker's Lancashire roots. Yellow Hill and the trees of Alum House Wood lie within easy reach for those wanting to extend the day.
Allow around two hours at a steady pace. Refreshment options near the trail include the Bee Hive and The Station, both handy for rounding off the walk before heading back by public transport. Sturdy footwear is sensible, as the bridleways and field paths can hold mud well into the drier months.
