About this walk
This compact walk leaves the village of Arnside and climbs steadily through mixed woodland onto the limestone hump of Arnside Knott. Despite its modest height, the Knott earns its reputation thanks to a striking vantage point over Morecambe Bay, with the Lakeland fells rising to the north on a clear day.
The path winds upward through a mosaic of yew, juniper and broadleaf trees that are characteristic of this corner of the Arnside and Silverdale area. Open clearings break the woodland cover, offering glimpses across the estuary as you gain height. At the summit area you reach the top of Arnside Knott itself, where the view opens out over the sands, the railway viaduct in the distance and the surrounding low limestone hills.
At roughly 2 km with 125 m of ascent, the route is short enough for an after-lunch leg stretch but steep enough in places to feel like a proper climb. Allow around 45 minutes, longer if you linger at the top to take in the panorama.
