About this walk
This short but energetic circuit begins and ends in Glenridding, the small lakeside village at the southern end of Ullswater. From here the route climbs steadily above the western shore, gaining nearly 250 metres in a compact loop that rewards the effort with sweeping views over the valley and its ribbon of lake.
The path leads past Glencoyne Farm, tucked into the fellside, and continues up towards Moss Crag before descending towards Glencoyne Bay. Along the way you skirt the fringes of Glencoyne Wood and pass close to Glencoyne Beck, with the crags of Black Crag rising to the west and glimpses down to Mossdale Bay below.
At roughly 3.1 km, the walk packs a satisfying amount of Lakeland scenery into an hour on foot. Expect a mix of open fellside, farm track and woodland edge, with the shimmer of Ullswater as a near-constant companion before you drop back down to Glenridding.
