Adlington Circular Walk

This gentle 2.6 km route makes for a relaxed 45 minutes on foot, linking the village of Adlington with neighbouring Heath Charnock. It begins at the Jubilee Playing Fields, a good place to gather yourself before setting off past the Inn The Dog House and on towards Rigshaw Bridge.

From the bridge you join the towpath of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, one of the great waterways of the North West. The walking is flat and easy underfoot, with just 33 metres of ascent across the whole route, and the canal provides steady company as you head towards the finish at Heath Charnock.

If you have time to linger, the area around the route holds a handful of listed curiosities worth a look, including the Old School House, an ornate set of Gate Piers and Railings, the Wigan Lodge to Duxbury Park, and the Adlington and District War Memorial. It is a compact walk, but one that packs in canal scenery, village character and a quiet slice of Lancashire.
