Acorn Bank to Temple Sowerby Walk, Acorn Bank

This gentle circular route sets out from the village of Temple Sowerby in the Eden Valley, following quiet lanes and field paths across a corner of rural Cumbria. Leaving the village, the walk passes close to St James before dipping through Newbarn Wood, where the ground begins to roll gently between farmland and mixed woodland.

The route continues by St Edmund and threads through Kirkandrews Wood and Park Wood, sheltered belts of trees that link the open pastures together. From here the path arrives at Acorn Bank, the leafy estate that gives the walk its name, before turning back towards the village along easy tracks. On the way you can look out for the May Pole and The Moss, two familiar features close to Temple Sowerby, and Acorn Bank Mill sits nearby for anyone keen to extend the day.

At just over five kilometres with modest ascent, it makes a relaxed half-day out, suited to walkers who want woodland, gentle countryside and a taste of the Eden Valley without a strenuous climb.
