Abinger Roughs Nature Walk, North Downs West

This gentle circular walk sets out from the village of Abinger Hammer, tucked below the western North Downs in Surrey. The route climbs steadily onto Abinger Roughs, a peaceful expanse of woodland and open glades managed as a nature reserve, before curving past Leasers Barn on the return leg back to the village.

Although the total ascent nudges 130 metres, the gradients are forgiving and the paths are well used, making this a comfortable hour on the ground. Along the way you'll find quiet woodland tracks, glimpses across the Tillingbourne valley, and the mixed habitats that make the Roughs a rewarding spot for spotting wildlife.

Back in Abinger Hammer, it's worth pausing by the River Tillingbourne and the distinctive village sign before rewarding yourself at the Abinger Hammer Tea Rooms. At just over three kilometres, it's an ideal short outing for a morning or afternoon, and easily paired with a longer exploration of the surrounding North Downs countryside.
