About this walk

Starting from St Helens Common, this gentle linear walk of just under 4 kilometres leads out onto The Duver, a sandy spit of dunes and grassland reaching towards the mouth of Bembridge Harbour. Pause at The Duver Cafe or Baywatch on the Beach for a coffee before continuing past the striking remains of St Helen's Old Church, a ruin perched at the edge of the sea.

From here the path follows the coast southwards, opening up wide views across the Solent. You will pass above Priory Bay, one of the island's quieter sandy coves, tucked beneath low wooded cliffs. The route then climbs gently inland to finish in the village of Nettlestone.

With only around 98 metres of ascent spread across the walk, the going is easy throughout and well suited to a relaxed hour on foot. Nearby, walkers with time to spare can extend their visit to Seagrove Bay, Bembridge Point Beach, the Palmer Memorial or the little church of St Catherine-by-the-Green.
