About this walk

This linear stretch of the 1066 Harold's Way traces a quiet path through the Kent countryside between Cobham and Northfleet Green, threading together woodland, parkland and village lanes. Starting near the Darnley Mausoleum, set within the wooded estate once attached to Cobham Hall, the route heads through Cobham village past the Cobham War Memorial and the timber-framed Leather Bottle inn, a long-standing village landmark.

From Cobham the path winds west through gentle farmland and copses towards Istead Rise, with Jeskyns Community Woodland nearby for those wanting to extend the day. The terrain is undulating but never strenuous, with just 65 metres of ascent spread across the 9.8 km route.

The walk drops into Northfleet Green, finishing at The Ship Inn, a welcome spot before picking up onward transport. Side interests close to the line of the route include the ruined gamekeeper's house, the Ifield War Memorial and the curious Toe Monument, all rewarding short detours for walkers with time to linger.
