About This is a journey into a hidden kingdom, highlighting the beauty, diversity and importance of fungi in Eryri, and why this landscape remains such a vital refuge for these extraordinary organisms.Often hidden and overlooked, fungi form one of the most important and fascinating parts of Eryri's wildlife. From valley woodlands to the harsh conditions of the high mountain tops, this talk explores the remarkable diversity of fungi that thrive across the landscape, many of them rarely seen and poorly understood.I will take you into the vast world of fungi, from conspicuous woodland species to elusive mountain specialists found high on exposed ground. We will explore rare and unusual species, fungi more typically associated with northern and upland environments, and those adapted to life at the edge of survival.The talk will also reveal some of the more surprising aspects of fungi, including species that dramatically change appearance under ultraviolet light, exposing colours and patterns invisible to the naked eye.David Winnard is one of the most respected foragers and naturalists in the North of England, having worked with and for organisations including the BBC, RSPB, Lancashire Wildlife Trust, City of Trees, Groundwork, Brockholes as well as many local councils, groups and organsisations.
