Slow Stitch for creative wellbeing - Shipley Art Gallery

Sat, 26 September 2026 Β· Prince Consort Road

About this event

This class is about slowing down and discovering the meditative qualities of stitching. You will learn meditative breathing techniques and how to combine them with sewing. The racing mind will be slowed, and the relaxing act of sewing will absorb you. There will be an array of fabrics to choose from, and you can sew pieces together to create an abstract design in colours and patterns of your choice. You'll leave this class feeling relaxed and refreshed, equipped with relaxation techniques to easily continue in daily life. You'll also take home your stitched fabric piece, in a frame if you wish - display it at home as a reminder that quietening the mind allows creativity to shine through. This class is run by wellbeing practitioner Jan Ashburner, who is passionate about combining calmness with creativity. This autumn, around World Mental Health Day, we invite you to explore wellbeing through creativity in a range of workshops run by Jan. See website for details.
