Levan Ferry Terminal

Levan Ferry Terminal, more commonly known as McInroy's Point, sits on the western edge of Gourock on the Firth of Clyde. From here Western Ferries operate a regular roll-on roll-off service across the water to Hunter's Quay at Dunoon, making it one of the principal gateways from the Inverclyde coast onto the Cowal peninsula. The crossing takes roughly twenty minutes and offers some of the most dramatic views on the lower Clyde, with the hills of Argyll rising directly across the water.

The terminal itself is a working, no-frills point of departure with vehicle marshalling lanes, a small waiting area and a kiosk. Foot passengers, cyclists, cars, caravans and lorries all use the service, and the ferries run frequently throughout the day. The setting is what makes Levan memorable: looking north along the Clyde estuary you can pick out Loch Long, the Holy Loch and, on clear days, the peaks of the Arrochar Alps.

For visitors, the terminal is best treated as a scenic stepping stone. Combining a short bus ride from Gourock with the ferry to Dunoon makes for an easy and inexpensive day out, opening up the walks, gardens and villages of Cowal without the long road journey around Loch Lomond.
